AI in the Workplace
AT FIRST GLANCE, artificial intelligence (AI) strikes fear into people. Their first thought is that it will take their job away. But the reality is more along the lines of improving peoples' abilities by taking over some of the tasks that people find dull or stress-inducing, or simply time consuming.
AI technologies can eliminate writers' block, summarize long documents, create tweets and other short messages, and even watch for spotting inaccuracies in text or inappropriate/dated terminlogy. In short, AI is similar to the arrival of computers, email, the internet, or even the automobile. It will definitely change things, but as many observers have pointed out, "60% of jobs people work in today didn’t exist in 1940."
This course will continue to be updated as time goes by, but will focus on the types of generative AI technologies available in businesses and workplaces today, how they work, and how people can work with them. Topic areas will include:
- Research, data and information collection and consolidation
- AI as a writing assistant
- Using AI to summarize the key points in meetings and video chat calls
- Improving workflows and project management
- Crossing language barriers and other divides
- Understanding the limitations of the technology
- Preparing people for change - introducing AI into the workplace
- Staying up-to-date with new AI technologies
